TEMPEEST Empty Tempest IOM

Post by scullyed Sat Aug 08, 2009 4:34 pm

Hi, I just ordered a Tempest after I sold the Azetone. It is a gamble as no one here has one but a sailor has a Vapor and it seems fast. How does the tempest compare?

The Azetone is a fast yacht and I won the Singapore championship with it. Fast acceration, good pointing ability and resists nose diving than most but it is very sensitive. You need to concentrate all the time and correct for wind shifts. Is the Tempest easy to set up and sail?

Thank you in advance

Tempest,
Yacht arrived in good order but I discovered a leak in the fin box which was sealed with some epoxy. After setup was complete, the yacht weighed in at 3890g so 120g of correcter weights would need to be placed next to the finbox. The mast was rakes as per Carl's instructions and is noticable raked backwards. Yachts sits high in the water and has a lot of freeboard. Bow rests about 2cm from the waterlinewith the stern just touching the water.

Good pointing ability withspeed.
Very fast acceleration and gets on to surf quickly.
Downwind performance good too.

I have not had the chance to sail the Tempest on "B"rig conditions so I will leave that for another time.

Easy to sail and is not very tempermental to setup. Just point and go. The yacht does most of the work for you and only small corrections are needed. All in all, its a good yacht.

Regards

Ervin

The tempest has proved itself in light as well as in strong conditions. She came in 1st in the 7th Regatta Singapore IOM Champonships and 1st in the 8th Regatta Singapore IOM championships.

Its strong point is the ability to accelerate very quickly and get up to surf very early in strong conditions.
